In the News: LGBTQIA+ Rights
A current-events-based workshop exploring what’s happening—and what’s at stake.
Service Description
Across headlines, social media, and legislation, the conversation around LGBTQIA+ rights is shifting rapidly—and sometimes it’s hard to keep up. This workshop offers a space to slow down, look closely, and build understanding together. Using real news clips and stories as our starting point, we’ll explore the current landscape of LGBTQIA+ rights in the U.S.—what’s happening, what’s being debated, and how those debates are showing up in our schools, workplaces, and communities. We’ll examine how media shapes public opinion, and how to think critically about the stories we’re being told. More than just learning what’s going on, this session invites reflection on how we form our beliefs, why these issues matter, and what it means to be informed and engaged—whether you're directly impacted or standing in solidarity. Together, we will: - Break down current events and legislation impacting LGBTQIA+ rights - Practice analyzing media through cultural, historical, and political lenses - Explore multiple viewpoints and beliefs in a respectful, open environment - Reflect on our own emotions, values, opinions, and opportunities for action No background in politics or media literacy required—just curiosity, compassion, and a desire to better understand the moment we’re living in. Sessions offered every second Wednesday from 6pm - 8pm and Sunday 1:30pm - 3:30pm
